At a ceremony held in the Holy See of the Armenian Church at Etchmiadzin, just outside the Armenian capital of Yerevan, the Armenian Church canonised all the victims of the 1915 atrocities, said to number 1.5 million, as saints. The ceremony was attended by the President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, and other state officials.

Georgian-Belarus relations improved after 2008, when unexpectedly Belarus did not follow Russia in recognising the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia despite Kremlin pressure.
