An Armenian soldier has died overnight after a mine explosion near the Line of Contact in Nagorno-Karabakh, official sources announced on Wednesday morning. The soldier has been named as Gevorg A Harutyunyan.
"Armenia soldier lost his life because of [a] mortar explosion," the Armenian Ministry of Defence said in a statement, accusing Azerbaijan of a ceasefir violation.
Harutyunyan, who was born in 1996, was killed at 15.00 on Tuesday. Armenia has accused Azerbaijan of firing 350 shots from various types of weapon across the contact line on Tuesday night.
Since four days of fierce fighting at the beginning of April, leaving dozens of soldiers and civilians dead, there have been sporadic outbreaks of violence along the Line of Contact, with soldiers on both sides losing their lives.
