EU Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus, Herbert Salber, met President Ilham Aliev in Baku on Tuesday to discuss the Karabakh conflict and the role of the international community in its resolution.
Also present for the meeting was the Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration of Azerbaijan, Novuz Mammedov and various other EU officials.
EUSR Salber is currently in the region for discussions with various stakeholders on issues related to the Karabakh conflict and its resolution. He was also due to travel close the the line of contact in the conflict zone to see for himself the conditions of communities closely affected by the conflict.

The Brussels summit offers an opportunity for important steps on this matter in the right direction – not as an end in themselves but rather as a part of a longer term and more ambitious vision.
An incident at a military facility of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic resulted in three Armenian soldiers killed and one seriously injured. It is not clear what the exact circumstances of the incident were, but for the moment it is being treated as an accident.
