A 20 year old Armenian soldier serving with the military formations of the self-declared Nagorno-Karabakh Republic was killed on Monday evening, most likely as a result of sniper fire. No details are available but both Armenian and Azerbaijani military sources have confirmed the incident. The Karabakh conflict zone remains tense after incidents last week in which two Azerbaijani civilians, including a two year old baby, lost their lives.
Officials of both sides also continue to exchange sharp comments through the media and in international fora. Kremlin spokesperson Dimitri Peskov on Monday called on all parties to exercise restraint and to abide by existing agreements.

The European Union condemned in the strongest possible terms the recent attack in Salisbury. EU leaders agreed with the UK government's assessment that it is highly likely that the Russian Federation is responsible and that there is no plausible alternative explanation.
