Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has been touring the northern regions of the country, including those bordering Russia and Georgia.
The president visited Zakatala, Balakan and Gakh districts on Thursday and Friday (3-4 August), inaugurating various new projects, and addressing a national conference focusing on the production of agricultural goods.
The region is also populated by a number of national minorities. In speeches in the region Aliyev praised the unity and solidarity between various ethnicities in Azerbaijan

In Gakh, President Aliyev inaugurated a new power station, an important infrastructure feature that will extend gas and electricity supplies throughout the northern part of the country.

A new Ukrainian Orthodox Church, independent from Moscow, has been agreed at a special Unification Council in Kiev. The head of the new Church will be Metropolitan Epiphany of Pereyaslav and Belotserkovsk
