Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili this morning announced a major cabinet reshuffle.
First Vice Prime Minister Dimitri Kumsishvili who until today held the finance portfolio has been appointed Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development to coordinate the work of the economic ministries. Former Economy Minister Giorgi Gakharia is the new Minister of the Interior with the rank of Deputy Prime Minister.
Six ministers left the Cabinet, namely Interior Minister Giorgi Mghebrishvili, Minister of Education Alexandre Jejelava, Minister of Energy Ilia Eloshvili, Sports Minister Tariel Khechikashvili, Environment Minister Gigla Agulashvili, and State Minister for Euro-Atlantic Integration Viktor Dolidze.
Tbilisi State University vice rector Mikheil Chkhenkeli is the new Minister of education; Mamuka Bakhtadze has been appointed as Finance Minister and Levan Davitashvili was appointed as Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
The Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of Georgia will be integrated with the Ministry of Culture and Monument Protection and will be led by Mikheil Giorgadze; the Office of State Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration will be the integrated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and it will be added to the portfolio of Foreign Minister Mikheil Janelidze.
