Armenia has reported that one of its soldiers was killed on Wednesday afternoon as a result of Azerbaijani gunfire. The soldier, a contracted conscript, was named as twenty-eight year old Private Haykaz Matevosyan.
Commenting on the incident, the spokesperson of the Armenian Foreign Ministry, Tigran Balayan, said that " recently, Azerbaijan has been continuously shelling the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, targeting and damaging the settlements, civilian institutions and civilian populations of border villages. As a result of the shots released from the Azerbaijani side, an Armenian serviceman, private Haykaz Matevosyan has been killed. We express our deepest condolences to the family, relatives and fellow servicemen of the fallen soldier and assure that we will continue to work decisively to establish peace."
The spokesperson condemned the action.

Azerbaijani media identified him as Bahram Hasanzada, a foreign citizen, and says he "was engaged in espionage according to instructions from foreign services, to the detriment of Azerbaijan's state security".
The report makes a number of recommendations that "aim to guide peace negotiators, policymakers, donors, and national and international civil society activists who work to promote mutual understanding and peace between the societies divided by the Nagorny Karabakh conflict".
