Russian president Vladimir Putin on Thursday (27 September) payed a short visit to Baku.
The Russian leader attended the World Judo Championships, addressed a meeting of the Russia-Azerbaijan Inter-regional Forum, and had a one to one meeting with the Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev.
"For us, Russia is a very important and valuable partner, a friend, a neighbour with whom we have the highest level of relations. I think that in the coming years we will follow the path of building up our cooperation, creating even better conditions for the business structures of our countries and strengthening cooperation in all areas", said the Azerbaijani president before the meeting.
Azerbaijani media identified him as Bahram Hasanzada, a foreign citizen, and says he "was engaged in espionage according to instructions from foreign services, to the detriment of Azerbaijan's state security".
The report makes a number of recommendations that "aim to guide peace negotiators, policymakers, donors, and national and international civil society activists who work to promote mutual understanding and peace between the societies divided by the Nagorny Karabakh conflict".
