A round table meeting on the theme "Contextual Challenges to efforts to eliminate the scourge of landmines and unexploded ordinance in the South Caucasus" was held in Baku on 8 April as part of the region wide campaign LANDMINE FREE SOUTH CAUCASUS taking place from 4-10 April. The event was organised by the Caucasus Policy Analysis Centre and LINKS (Dialogue, Analysis and Research)
Government officials, diplomats representatives of international and local civil society organisations and experts participated and spoke at the meeting. The event was opened by the Head of European Union Delegation to Azerbaijan, Ambassador Kestutis Jankauskas, and keynote remarks were made by the Director of LINKS (DAR) , Dr Dennis Sammut.

The city that is the heart of Turkey returns an opposition candidate as Mayor. Many see it as a victory for democracy at a time when Turkish institutions are being tested.
David Bakradze, of the opposition European Georgia Party, has in the meantime raised the issue of Russia's return to full participation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which is going to be discussed at a meeting in Strasbourg this week. Bakradze said that it was not acceptable that Russia be allowed to return to PACE given its recent actions.
