On the occasion of the Armenian Christmas (celebrated on 6 January), the Mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu has visited the city's Armenian Patriarchate to exchange greetings with the recently elected Patriarch, Bishop Sahak Masalian. After, the Mayor of Istanbul went to the Armenian Church in the district of Yesilkoy, and met there with members of the local Armenian community.

Specialists at the University of Sheffield in the UK estimate that the blast had about one tenth of the explosive power of the atomic bomb dropped on the Japanese city of Hiroshima during World War Two and was "unquestionably one of the biggest non-nuclear explosions in history".
