The de facto president of Abkhazia, Aslan Bzhania, has appointed the veteran politician Sergei Shamba as head of the National Security Council in the self-declared Abkhaz Republic.
Shamba is one of the best know Abkhaz politicians in the international arena, having served as Foreign Minister and later as Prime Minister. He is also one of the most experienced Abkhaz politicians in negotiations with the Georgian side
Sergei Shamba was born on March 15, 1951 in Gudauta. Since 2014 he has bee a member of parliament and leader of the United Abkhazia party.
